On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, Dr. (Pst.) Siju continued on the deep truth series “Secret Place” at the Handmaidens fellowship, and it was a glorious soul-stirring interactive time in God’s presence. Continuing from Psalm 91:1 which says, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most-High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty,” she stated that the third secret place will inform who you really are. It will tell if you are a Christian. It will tell you if you are going to make Heaven. Without getting to that secret place, you cannot abide under the shadow of the Almighty. A lot of us today observe all kinds of ritual ceremonies in form of worship, and we are so into the ceremonies that we have forgotten the key to life eternal. God is not satisfied with rituals. He is looking for those that will worship Him in truth and spirit.
Jesus says in Matthew 7:21-27 “Not everyone that saith unto me, LORD, LORD, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven..." Does your walk match your talk? Is your religion pure and undefiled? Are you a doer of the word or merely a hearer?
The third secret place is the place of obedience. It is a place where we state our belief, we state what we practice, we state whether we believe and we want to obey God's word. Is the way you live consistent with the word of God or is it only demonstrated by the amount of time you spend listening to sermons and doing other religious rituals? Do you make a half-hearted attempt at obedience? Sometimes, our lives are not in full compliance of what God requires of us. For instance, we make excuses for anger, intolerance, fear, detachment, impatience, unforgiveness, etc. Usually, we are confronted with a crisis of belief, but we cannot want God to keep us in the secret place without trusting Him. It is funny to note that trust can only come through obedience. When God instructed Jonah to go to Nineveh and preach to them to repent, Jonah refused because he hated them. He thought rationally of what use was all his years living righteously if God could forgive the people of Nineveh in just a minute.
It is imperative that we obey and trust Him. You cannot trust Him for protection, children, and money or material things if you are not in obedience to Him. You cannot trust Him to keep you alive if you are not in obedience to His word. You cannot trust Him if you don’t obey Him that even if the end should come, life eternal is assured. The first two secret places of love and prayer would lead you to the secret place of obedience. You need to be able to embrace, adjust, change, and sacrifice your being, thoughts, and prejudices to get into the secret place of obedience.
WHAT CHANGES DO YOU NEED TO MAKE?
Let no one fool you, you can never embrace Christianity without self-discipline. If you are undisciplined, it is not likely you would love God. Saul was chosen as king at a time Israel rejected God. Then God instructs Saul to utterly destroy the Amalekites but king Saul was concerned about the spoils of the war. God tested Saul to check his heart and his measure of love for Him. Saul failed the test, he brought back spoils from the war and he even wanted to sacrifice some of the fat rams to God. Saul was rebellious. 1 Samuel 15:23 says, “For REBELLION is as the sin of WITCHCRAFT, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” God frowns at rebellion. Saul was more interested in honouring himself.
Disobedience clearly states I AM MY OWN GOD. Jesus Christ says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). You have no option as a believer than to keep the commandments (Psalm 119:47). Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Those who are blessed would keep the commandments. Those who would live long will keep the commandments. Love will always embrace life eternal. Jesus Christ says, “If you obey My commands, you will remain in My love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in His love” (John 15:9). The Christian journey is not easy and it can take its toll on you. However, Isaiah 40:31 says "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint." God knows all you are going to go through. You can still praise God in the midst of your trials. James 1:2-3 says, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into diverse temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” Why can’t you choose to obey? The Nike slogan says, ’Just Do It.’ In the case of Saul God told him “It is better to obey than sacrifice.” Some people have turned sanctification and holiness into obedience. True faith/religion is characterized by obedience. Obedience is essential for faith. You must strive to walk your talk and imbibe self-discipline.
Disobedience causes strife between husband and wife, masters and servants, children and parents, even Christians in the body of Christ. Obedience is your key to getting to the secret place of the Most-High. Obedience is an act of worship. Great moves of God are usually preceded by simple acts of obedience. Obedience makes you present yourself as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God. Obedience brings God's rewards. Obedience proves your love for love for God. Obedience demonstrates your faith that you know God, and you will obey Him because you know He will come through for you. Don’t go outside of obeying God to get something because you will have to stay outside of God to keep it. A Christian needs to know that at every point that obedience is better than sacrifice. Where do you disobey the most? What do you intend to change? How do you intend to change? Saul was cast away from the presence of God because of his disobedience. HE THAT DWELLETH IN THE SECRET PLACE OF THE MOST-HIGH SHALL ABIDE IN OBEDIENCE.
The meeting ended with Dr. (Pst.) Siju encouraging the women to do some ‘real soul searching’ to discover habits that would cast them away from the secret place of the Most-High.
