Excerpts of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade's Sermon on Sunday, January 27, 2019

Bible Text: Isaiah 43:18-19 (NLT)

The Nature of God

We should not have a problem in believing that God will do something new in our lives because He does new things every day. Isaiah 43:19 says, “For I am about to do something. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” Once God declares a thing, it is already done (Psalm 33:9). This is the nature of God and that is why He is telling you to see what He has already started. You might not immediately perceive it but you need to know that whatever God has started is already finished. From Genesis 17:5, we see that Abram took God for His word when God changed his name to Abraham, father of many nations. He believed what God said was already done and he acted as if it had happened. Abraham was confident and he gave glory to God (Romans 4:18-20).

God says about Himself in Isaiah 46:10 that “Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.” You need to understand the God you serve and know that everything has been programmed in the Master plan. Your life is a replay before God and He knows how it will end. That is why He says, "Say ye to the righteous, it shall be well with him" because all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. For Joseph, he knew he would have a glorious end, as God had revealed it to him through dreams. God knows what you need even before you ask Him, He anticipates your needs (Matthew 6:8) and that is why He can confidently say in Isaiah 65:24, "Before they call, I will answer."

God had made the redemption plan before Adam sinned because Jesus Christ was slain before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8 [KJV], 1 Peter 1:19-20 [NLT]). That is why no one could stop the crucifixion (2 Timothy 1:9 [NLT]. Everything concerning you has been written and hence, God does not run helter-skelter over anything going on in your life (Psalm 139:16 [AMP]).  The answer to your prayer request is available, God always anticipates and He makes provision (Genesis 24:12-15). God orders the footsteps of His children (Proverbs 3:5-6). If you can anticipate your children's need, why won't God anticipate your needs (Matthew 7:11)? God has given you everything you need to live a godly life and ensure that you enjoy life so that you can be a blessing to others (2 Peter 1:3, John 10:10 [AMP]). My prayer is that God will remove anything contrary to a good life and anything that will hinder you from enjoying a good life.

God wants you to prosper, it is His priority (3 John 1:2), for He has pleasure in the prosperity of His servants (Psalm 35:27). God is happy when you are happy, when you have enough for yourself, and enough to do the work of His Kingdom. He is the One that gives power and ability to get wealth so that you can fulfil His Kingdom agenda. God has already deposited that which will cause you to excel this year. The blessings God has for you this year has your name written on it and no one will take it from you in Jesus mighty name. God does not want you to be anxious because everything will be all right according to His plan.

When God says, "I will do a new thing," He has already done it. God has given you the talent you need to succeed; He has placed opportunities around you to make you excel. What God will do in your life this year will pale out other things He has done in the past. When men say there is a casting down, you will say there is a lifting up, because it is time for you to arise and shine for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you.

Recognizing the New

From Isaiah 43, we understand that God pointed out the problem of recognition, and that is why He is asking, "Can't you see it?" That means He has begun the good work, and He that has begun a good work in your life will finish it (Philippians 1:6). However, you can be looking, sitting or close to the new thing God wants to do and not see it. My prayer is that God will open the eyes of your understanding today so that you can see the opportunities He has placed around you (Isaiah 11:29, Ephesians 1:18).

Why People Don't See Opportunities?

1. Most people do not see opportunities because they are ignorant. Opportunities need to be discerned. May the Lord open your eyes to see beyond the ordinary.

2. Most opportunities are not obvious. The ways of God are not the ways of man. Many people have a pre-set way they think God answers prayers, but God does not always do things the same way. This was Naaman’s perception in 2 Kings 5:11 when he was expecting Elisha to come out to attend to him instead of telling him to wash in the river. He had a preconceived notion of how God would answer him and heal him of leprosy.

Furthermore, you need to be creative, reinvent, be innovative in order to utilise the opportunities around you. God has given you all that you need to excel in life. So, therefore, you need to step out and do something (Proverbs 26:13), think, see yourself as a solution provider, etc.

Ephesians 5:14-15 (AMP) says, "For this reason, He says, "Awake, sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine as dawn upon you and give you light. Therefore see that you walk carefully living life with honour, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil, not as the unwise, but as wise sensible, intelligent, discerning people." God wants His children to prosper, and if you are a child of God, it is only the Spirit of God that can inspire you. The Spirit of God knows the mind of God and what God has written concerning you. The Spirit of God will not dwell in a sinful heart or body, He is a Holy Spirit. If you are not born again, God is calling on you today to surrender your life to Him, lay your burdens before Him and He will lift those burdens. If you want a change of story and you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now. I know I am a sinner, please forgive me my sins. I plead the Blood of Jesus to wash me clean of all my sins. With my mouth, I confess that Jesus from today, I accept You as the LORD of my life. Please change my heart from a disobedient heart to a heart that obeys you, fill me with the Holy Spirit, write my name in the Book of life, and make me brand new in Jesus Mighty Name.
