FULFILLING PURPOSE IN DESTINY: THE BATTLE IS RIGGED IN YOUR FAVOUR
Excerpts of Pastor Emeka Ndu's message at the Sunrise Service on Sunday, January 14, 2018
Life is like a wrestling match that is already fixed and then, the winner turns out to be the wrestler you were not expecting. Likewise, the journey of life is already fixed. Once you are a child of God, you can be rest assured that no matter how painful whatever you are going through is, you are going through it for good. Even when God has promised you victory, you will go through fights or challenges. In fulfilling destiny, you need to know that the fight has been fixed and rigged in your favour.
Looking at the Book of Judges, you will see that God called the children of Israel and told them to crush everything in their sight as they went into the land of Canaan. God also instructed them not to take prisoners or make alliances because He had given them the land. God didn't just give them the land by sending a plague, but sent their enemies out little by little till the children of Israel inherited the land (Exodus 23:29).
Things happen and many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers them out of it all. This is the assurance that you should have. When you face delays and problems, it is not necessarily because it is bad. Sometimes, God is fashioning you so that you can manage the success He is bringing your way. The rational thing one would have thought God would have done for the children of Israel against their enemies was to destroy all them at once, but He did not do that. God wanted to toughen up the children of Israel so that they could appreciate the land they got.
When you despair, there are certain things you should bear in mind. When God says you should go ahead and possess what He has promised you, you should know that victory is on the other side of obedience. Remember that the wall of Jericho only fell flat after the children of Israel obeyed God's instruction to turn round it seven times. All through life, you will fight. Therefore, when people tell you that as a born-again all your problems are over; that is true because the LORD has provided a solution and a way of escape to all the problems as you encounter them (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Firstly, in the fight of life, you need to find time to praise God for the things He has done in your life (Judges 1:1-2). When you remember the things that God has done for you in the past, it is easy for you to face tomorrow and trust that the LORD Who did those things for you in the past is able to do it again.
Secondly, deal with problems or issues decisively so that they don't come back to haunt you or don't re-occur (Judges 1:6), and then, you can have victory.
Thirdly, carefully choose the alliances you make. In Judges 2: we see that despite the injunction that children of Israel should drive away the people of Canaan from the land, the children of Israel disobeyed God and they were punished, as the enemies became a thorn to them (Judges 2:1-3).
It is important to have strategies in life, and one of those strategies is to be closer to God; walk with God and let the Word of God guide you. In Judges 4:8, Barak who had been promised victory refused to go to war on his own but insisted that Deborah go with him, and at the end, victory went to someone else. Barak lost the glory that would have been his because he did not have a strategy on what he needed to do.
Jehovah Who created the Heavens and the earth knows the end from the beginning. Whatever God needs to do, He will do in your life. He is the One you should look up to, not man. Commit whatever you are facing today to the LORD in prayer and ask Him to arise and manifest in that situation. The LORD will arise for His children. Are you God's child? Can you call Him Father? Are you living in sin? Surrender your life to Jesus Christ today, make Him your LORD and Saviour; and He will arise for you, rig the fights of life in your favour, make you fulfil purpose and write your name in the Book of Life.
