Fulfilling Purpose in Destiny

Excerpts of Pastor Idowu Iluyomade's Sermon at the Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, January 7, 2018

Fulfilling purpose in destiny requires that you let go of the past, forget the things that happened in 2017; the disappointments of 2017 is gone, this is a new year, it is time to click refresh because God wants to do a new thing (Philippians 3:13-14). I prophesy into your life that as you click refresh this new year, God will start a new thing in your life in Jesus Mighty Name.

To 'fulfil' means to make full till it overflows (John 10:10 [AMP]), to fill-up, victory, realized dreams, to complete, perfect, to achieve, to accomplish, to succeed (Proverbs 23:18) says For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.”

Sometimes the word purpose is used interchangeably with destiny, but there is a difference between the two. Destiny is the pre-determined course of events, and the purpose for which a person or thing is appointed. For example, in John 18:37, John the Baptist was born to bear witness and be a forerunner to the Truth. Destiny is futuristic (Isaiah 9:6-7, Psalm 139:16, Jeremiah 29:11), sometimes called the eternal purpose of God. Jesus was born to save the world (Luke 2:11), even though for the first thirty-two and a half years of His life, it seemed nothing happened, but the series of actions and events led to the fulfilment of His destiny (Luke 19:10). Jesus' destiny was the eternal purpose of God for man.

Destiny is your destination, where you are going (Isaiah 46:10). When Joseph had a dream, he dreamt of dominion and greatness, but all of it was in the future.

Purpose is active present, it is in the now, the reason for which something is done or exists. It involves a goal or a plan - a plan towards which all your efforts are directed; activities or task. He has His eternal purpose for you which is destiny, but there is a work, a walk, a task, an assignment that you need to do. Paul completed his task, that is why he could say in 2 Timothy 4:7 [KJV] "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

God wants to perform many miracles in our lives but many people's plans, actions and purposes are not aligned with their destiny or God's eternal purpose. Your primary purpose in life is to achieve destiny, this is God's eternal plan for your life. When there is an alignment between the two, miracle, signs and wonders will happen in your life. We see a manifestation of this truth in the life of Jesus, whose actions aligned with His destiny and He succeeded.

Destiny should drive purpose and purpose should drive action. When Joseph had his dream, he saw the big picture, but his brothers wanted to kill that dream (Genesis 37:8 & 20). Your destiny is a big picture. Joseph saw the big picture about his future, and his actions aligned with the destiny shown to him by God (Genesis 48:51). Joseph walked purposefully and circumspectly, with the end in sight. Your dream can never be killed in Jesus Name. For you to receive the blessings of God speedily, you have to align yourself with God's purpose for your life. When Joseph saw the greatness ahead of him, he was focused with daily success habits. When Potiphar's wife wanted to seduce him, he kept God in focus, knowing that he could not sin against God (Genesis 39:9). He knew where he was going and walked in line with the destiny God had showed him.

Reserved: “To fulfil purpose in destiny, there has to be an alignment”

Once God brings a word like this, the enemy knows that lives will be transformed and destinies will be fulfilled, and hence, the adversaries will want to derail you; and that which you want to do will either be delayed, prolonged or will not happen at all (1 Corinthians 16:9). I pray that the plans of the adversaries concerning you will fail in Jesus Mighty Name. Jeremiah 30:16 [KJV] says "Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey." All your adversaries shall go into captivity so that you can fulfil destiny; and there will be an alignment with your plans, purpose and God's eternal purpose for you in Jesus Mighty Name.

The rich fool in Luke 12:16-21 lost focus, he forgot the reason God gave him wealth. He became self-centered and the spirit of mammon controlled him. He was not rich towards God, and he failed. This is the same thing with Lazarus and the rich man. The rich man ignored Lazarus and the poor around him. He only thought of himself, forgetting that he was a steward of the wealth given to him. Indeed, God has blessed you so that you can be a blessing to others.

When purpose is misaligned with destiny, it is like being on this earth illegally. Why do you think God wants to heal you, bless you, deliver you, and do much more in your life? It is so that you can testify. When Hannah aligned herself with the need of God (for a prophet), God blessed her with Samuel and five more children.

Sin truncates destiny. Sin truncated the destiny of Saul, Eli, and Esau. My prayer is that God will help you deal with the issue of sin in Jesus Mighty Name. Samson had a glorious destiny, but sin truncated it till he prayed and God restored his destiny (Judges 16:22, 28-30). It doesn't matter if you have veered off the path of your destiny, prayer and repentance can bring you back to God's eternal purpose for your life. Proverbs 19:21 [AMP] says "Many plans are in a man’s mind, but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand (be carried out)." God wants to order your steps but you must align yourself with Him and His will. Like Joseph, once you see the big picture, then it is easy to align yourself with that which God wants to do in your life.

The Last Dance session at our monthly Thanksgiving Services can accelerate the expected end, as it brings down God's presence and that which you want God to do for you is done. Romans 4:20 tells us that Abraham was strong in faith, giving glory to God. He did not look at the dead situation, but instead he gave glory to God and God answered him speedily. You need to see the big picture. God wants to answer you with miracles, signs and wonders, but He needs you to align yourself with His plans for you.

One of the things that can cause misalignment is sin. Are you living in sin? Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Saviour? Surrender your plans and life to Jesus Christ so that He can take over, and do that which He alone can do. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now, I know I am a sinner, please forgive my sins. With my mouth, I confess that Jesus, from today, I accept You as the LORD of my life; fill me with Your Holy Spirit, change my heart from a disobedient heart to a heart that will obey You. Please write my name in the Book of Life, make me brand new, and answer all my prayers speedily in Jesus Mighty Name.
