IT HAPPENED TO ME 23

[A message by PASTOR IDOWU ILUYOMADE at Digging for Gold Service on Tuesday, October 17, 2017]

Reference Scripture:

PSALM 91:8 - “Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.”

We’ve learnt over the weeks that wicked acts begets wicked results, and righteous acts begets righteous rewards. However, there are some exceptions to the rule; as sometimes, someone might receive the reward of the wicked even though he or she has not committed any wicked act. Also, it is possible to receive reward for a righteous act you don’t deserve. One of such circumstance is favour -  help rendered to you without recourse to what you have done wrong, omitted to do, or your qualification.

Another situation in which you can receive a righteous reward you don’t deserve is through the love of God. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” We were sinners destined for hell, but under the canopy of the love of God, we received redemption and salvation -those that were supposed to die lived. Thus, through the love of God, you can experience the righteous reward even if you have not done anything to deserve it. Before Esau and Jacob were born and before they did anything (good or bad), God said "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."

What Is Love?

Love is a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. It is a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection.

Variations of Love

Eros Love: romantic love

Philia Love: brotherly/friendship love

Logical Love. It is a calculative love

Tough Love:  to care for someone while remaining unsympathetic and being strict

Storgy Love: It is the love one has for a dependent, commonly called “motherly love.”

Philautia Love

It is a love for one's self. The Bible says you can’t love your neighbour until you love yourself (Mark 12:30). Ephesians 5:29 says “For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it…” You love yourself by taking good care of your body (bathing, brushing your teeth..); keeping fit; healthy eating; regular medical check ups; staying away from stress related activities;….. You also love yourself by bearing no grudges with anyone – forgive everyone that offends you. As you take care of your body, you must also develop your spirit and your soul. The body might last for up to 100 years or more, but the spirit and soul is eternal.

It is interesting to note that some people hate their bodies and inflict it with negative things like drugs. There are things you do not like about your body that you can change, for example, if you hate the size of your physical body, you can eat right and do exercises to get the size you desire. However, there are things you cannot change, that you just have to accept. Hating your body and not loving you may lead to low self-esteem, depression or suicide.

Finally, you may hate yourself or the circumstance which you are in, but accepting the love of God will help you get back on track. It does not matter what you have done, the Blood of Jesus can wash you clean and give you a fresh start – a new beginning, and turn you into the person that God has made you to be. In addition, if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Saviour, then you don’t love yourself. The spirit is more important than the body. Here is an invitation from Jesus Christ to you; He wants to show you His love. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ and get the reward of the righteous, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now. I know I am a sinner, please forgive me my sins. With my mouth, I confess that from right now, Jesus, I accept You as the LORD of my life. Please change my heart from a disobedient heart to an obedient heart. I believe that it is because of me You came into this world. You died for my sins, You took away my sins, take away my problems also. Please write my name in the Book of Life, help me to love myself, and rebrand me in Jesus Mighty Name.
