Bible Text: Mark 2:1-12 [KJV]

God has planted a seed in you that needs to be unlocked, activated, sown, cultivated and nurtured, after which He maximizes the seed’s potential to enable you fulfil your God-given destiny. It is important for you to discover your potential or inner untapped ability, and do something about it or else, it remains a dormant seed forever. Late Myles Munroe said “The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because therein lies all unrealised potentials, and abilities…”  God has destined some people to do great exploits, but they die unfulfilled because they never paid attention to develop their potentials.

Mark 2:1-12 records that when Jesus entered into Capernaum, it was noised that He was in the house. Consequently, many people were gathered there that there was no room to receive more people. Some people had planned from their homes that they would see Jesus, but when they got to the house Jesus was in, they were limited, they could not gain access.

Life is full of challenges, limitations, problems, mountains, etc. Examples of situations that can limit -  racism, gender inequality, circumstances, negative medical reports, sickness, friends, fear, ignorance, physical disabilities, etc.

People react to the problems differently. In this story, many people tried to enter the house Jesus was in, but gave up trying when access appeared impossible. Everyday people are surrounded with situations, problems, frustrations that make them give up and become complacent saying I have tried everything. Have you really tried everything? Proverbs 23:7 says "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he ……." If you say you can't do something, then you will not do it. Numbers 13:33 narrates the story of the Israeli spies that saw themselves as grasshoppers. There will always be excuses and reasons to give up, but there is also the power to overcome all circumstances. God brings opportunities our way that may not look like it, but they are blessings in disguise (Proverbs 23:13-14).

In verse 3 & 4 of our reference text, we see that four friends had the objective of bringing their sick friend to Jesus. These four friends were faced with the same limitation as others who couldn’t gain access to Jesus Christ, but they decided that there was no going back - their friend was not going back home on the stretcher. They knew that there must always be another way to gain access to Jesus.

These friends knew that their God was Jehovah Baal Perazim which means the LORD of breaking-through (2 Samuel 5:20). The unrealised ability and potential within them was put to use. That is why the Bible says you need to stir up the gift that God has placed in you (2 Timothy 1:6). Hence, these friends decided to find another way into the house. This teaches that you need to be driven, creative and innovative because those that succeed in life are driven, they are not laid back.

Our God is a creative God and we are created in His image. Also, John 10:34-36 says "If He called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be …….?" If you know Jesus Christ as your personal LORD and Saviour, you are born of God and created in the image and likeness of God (Psalm 82:6) and you are supposed to function like a god. So, if others have failed, it doesn't mean that you will fail, you cannot be limited (Romans 4:17). You must begin to function like a god because you are the representative of God here on earth, the ambassador of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).

God has much more for you and wants to do a lot of things through you but you need to begin to function as a king and god. These friends looked beyond the circumstance, and did not allow failure or defeat to prevent them from achieving their goal. Don't allow failure and defeat to hinder you. If you fall, rise up again; keep trying because there is a solution (1 Corinthians 10:13), and the challenge is just for a while (1 Peter 5:10). Everything is possible to him who believes (Mark 9:25).

God is not limited by time, space or circumstance. These friends were determined to succeed, they realised that they are one with God (Acts 17:25). If you are born of God, you must overcome (1 John 5:4). These friends bore their friend's burden, they found another way in, by breaking through the roof, and they let down their friend to the presence of Jesus. There is a power within you (Ephesians 3:20), therefore you must not give up, you must realise your potential. I pray that this month, God will help you to discover your potential and you will deploy it to enable you fulfil destiny in Jesus Mighty Name.

When the four friends broke through the roof and brought in their friend, Jesus saw their faith and He healed their friend. The man came for healing but Jesus did something else - Jesus forgave him his sins (Mark 2:5). The root cause of most problems is sin, manifesting as poverty, sickness, delay, failure, etc. After the issue of sin was dealt with, Jesus said to the man, "Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house." The man was healed and he went forth rejoicing before all those who gathered (Mark 2:11). How was this possible when his friends had earlier been given no room or space to pass through? It shows that if they had gone home when they were faced with obstacles, their friend would not have been healed. It implies that the limitation was a distraction by the devil.

In conclusion, the seed of greatness in you may remain unused or struggling to grow because you are not connected to the One that can make the seed grow. You are like a branch that is not connected to a tree. Consequently, you cannot function as a god or a king on earth and surely you cannot reign with the King of kings in eternity. So, if you want to become God’s ambassador on earth and also reign with Him in eternity, you have to surrender your life to Jesus Christ NOW. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now. I know I am a sinner, please forgive me my sins. With my mouth, I confess that Jesus, from today I accept You as the LORD of my life. I plead the Blood of Jesus to wash me clean of all my sins. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, write my name in the Book of life, make me brand new, and help me to maximize my potential in Jesus Mighty Name I pray.
