Excerpts of the Sermon preached by Pastor Idowu Iluyomade on Sunday, May 28, 2017

Bible Text: Genesis 30:20 [KJV]

Rachel was one of the daughters of Laban, Rebecca’s brother. She was a beautiful, dutiful and obedient woman. She met the man of her dreams - Jacob by divine arrangement. Jacob had gone to the well and at that time, Rachel came to the well alone to give water to her father's camels. God made it happen, and hence, both of them were in the right place at the right time. I pray that you will be in the right place at the right time, and no one will take your place in Jesus Mighty Name.

For Rachel and Jacob, it was love at first sight. As soon as Jacob saw Rachel, he wept for joy because she was too beautiful (Genesis. 29:11). Everything was going on well for them until the wedding night. Rachel had waited seven years for that day, and the Bible says even though the father of Rachel told Jacob that he needed to work in order to marry her, the seven years required was just like a few days to Jacob (Genesis 29:20). But something happened, as Rachel's father schemed her out. Instead of her being allowed to enter her husband's bedroom, there was a switch. Instead of Rachel going in to meet with Jacob, her elder sister, Leah who was not beautiful, got married to Jacob. Rachel must have been disappointed and devastated, as she must have announced to her friends she was getting married that day. The wedding had to be postponed for another seven years because Laban told Jacob that if he still wanted to marry Rachel whom he loved, he would have to work for him for another seven years. This means that even though Rachel had to wait for 14 years she still got married to the love of her life. Like Rachel, you might have been disappointed in your relationship, business dealings, you might have been schemed out of what is rightfully yours, or your destiny might have been manipulated, but today, God will step into the picture of your life and re-order your life aright in Jesus Mighty Name. The same God that preserved the heritage of Rachel will preserve your heritage in Jesus Mighty Name. In Daniel 4:36, we see that God preserved the heritage of Nebuchadnezzar. When he became proud and self- conceited, God dethroned him from his Kingdom for seven years, and he became a beast eating grass. But God kept his throne and heritage as he was restored to His throne after seven (7) years of wandering in the bush. My prayer is that if you have missed it in life or made mistakes, God will preserve your heritage and you will fulfil your God-given destiny in Jesus Mighty Name. With faith, you should expect restoration from today. Satan can only delay, he can never truncate the plan and purpose of God for your life.

Leah walked away with heritage of Rachel, and this should not have happened. Ecclesiastes 10:7 says "I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth." This is an error. Ezekiel 21:26-27 says "Thus saith the LORD God; remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him." This implies that God wants to remove those who are sitting in your position, on your destiny or in the place of your glory and honour; and He will overthrow them in Jesus Mighty Name. Isaiah 54:15 says "Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake." The enemies can gather, but from today, anyone that gathers to plan evil against you shall fail in Jesus Mighty Name. There are some enemies that need divine sedation because if they are awake or alive to their plans, they will hinder you and speak against you. Hence, God has to cause them to fall into deep sleep (I Samuel 26:12), so that by the time they wake up. God would have perfected all that concerns you.

It is always good to wait for the LORD's time. Yes, Leah had a headstart - she got married to a wealthy and notable man, but she did not find joy in the marriage. She was hated and unloved. Sometimes, when you try to manipulate God, He would give you your heart’s desire, but the end will be very bad. We see an example of this in Psalm 106:13-15 which says "They soon forgat His works; they waited not for His counsel: but lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert and he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul." What God has promised us is blessings without sorrow (Proverbs 10:22). Leah was married but she didn’t enjoy her marriage. This will not be your portion in Jesus Mighty Name. You need to be faithful and stay focused, because God's time is the best; and when He fulfils His plans concerning you, your joy will overflow.

Anybody looking at Rachel during that stage of her life would have laughed at her. She looked like a failure; she had been jilted. Some could have said that she had been forsaken, cursed or forgotten. However, God says in Isaiah 49:14-16, "But Zion said, The LORD hath forsaken me, and my LORD hath forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." Isaiah 49:16 [AMP] also says "Indeed, I have inscribed a picture of you on the palms of My hands; your city walls [Zion] are continually before Me."

Is it possible to do something that will provoke God to remember you? Yes. You can provoke God to remember you:

1. When you cry a cry of mercy (Exodus 2:24). When you cry unto God, He can intervene in your situation.

2. If you are in situation and things are not working out well, blow the trumpet and shout a shout of Hallelujah (Numbers 10:9), and there will be a turnaround for the better.

3. Sometimes, God will tell you to do something in order for Him to intervene in your situation. Isaiah 43:26 [AMP] says "Remind Me of your merits with a thorough report, let us plead and argue our case together; state your position, that you may be proved right." I pray that if you are doing something for God, He will remember you today in Jesus Mighty Name.

4. Giving sacrificially catches the attention of God, and this is what King Solomon did (1 Kings 3:4).

However, our reference text - Genesis 30:22 starts with the word "and." It is curious that the sentence starts with "and." This means God is trying to tell us something. The word "and" is used to connect words of same parts of speech, clauses or sentences that are to be taken together. The word "and" is a connector. For example, husband and wife, rice and beans, boys and girls, etc. Also, it means ‘in addition to’ or ‘along with’. If you look at the verses that proceeded verse 22, it is a different narration and it had nothing to do with Rachel. God was talking about Leah, her rejection and her children. During that time, Rachel had been barren for 26 years. She had prayed, she had looked to man for help especially when she told her husband to give her a child or she would die (Genesis 30:1). She looked for alternatives and gave her maid, Bilhah to her husband (Genesis 30:7); so she could have a child, but this did not solve the problem. She had wept and had been ridiculed by Leah. She also tried using mandrakes, which is believed to bring good fortune, cure sterility or make your husband love you more (Genesis 30:14). This mandrake which is also a love apple did not help Rachel's condition, as nothing happened the way she had planned. Her sister, Leah had given birth to seven children (six boys and a girl), but out of the blues, God remembered Rachel. She didn't deserve this remembrance because of all the carnal tactics she had employed in getting a child.

The remembrance of God proceeded Rachel's prayer. It is good that she kept praying but the remembrance showed that God first had her in mind, and then, turned towards her. The word "and" in Genesis 30:22 can only be related to timing, as her time had come. This can be best described as the exclusive prerogative of mercy; it is God's choice. Have it in mind that if you try to manipulate God's will you will end up getting what will make you a failure, but when your time comes, and God remembers you, nothing can stop you. When your time comes, the mercy of God will speak for you and override every opposition, remove every reproach, take away and silence all your enemies, and you will receive divine attention. When your time of remembrance comes, nothing can hold back the hand of God (John 11:38-44). When your time of mercy comes, even if you don't believe, God will show you mercy (Romans 3:3 [AMP], 2 Kings 4:16). Psalm 102:13 says "Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: FOR THE TIME to favour her, yea, THE SET TIME, is come." God will intervene in your situation right now in Jesus Name, because 2 Corinthians 6:2 says "For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, NOW IS THE ACCEPTED TIME; behold, NOW IS THE DAY OF SALVATION." And if you feel it is not yet your time, we have a God Who can change times and seasons (Daniel 2:21, John 2:1-11). Your time for God's intervention is today in Jesus Mighty Name. After it had rained, God remembered Noah (Genesis 8:1) and said it is time. Whenever God says it is time, He would hearken to your prayers. All you need to know is that God hears you because 1 John 5:14-15 says "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." Today, God will tune into your wave length and hearken to all your prayers in Jesus Mighty Name.

What Happens When Your Time Comes?

1. When your time comes, God sends help. God will send help to you today in Jesus Mighty Name.

2. When your time comes, God ends chronic delay.

3. When your time comes, poverty disappears.

4. When your time comes, stagnation ends.

5. When your time comes, failure and barreness become a thing of the past.

6. When your time comes, impossibility will be erased from your dictionary.

7. When your time comes, sorrow will turn to joy.

God remembered Rachel not because of her tears or the desperation of her prayers, but He remembered her in exercise of His prerogative of mercy. God says in Romans 8:15 "For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father." I prophesy that your appointed time has come. Ecclesiastes 9:11 says "I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; BUT TIME AND CHANCE HAPPENETH TO THEM ALL." Your time has come and God will overlook your faults in Jesus Mighty Name.

Rachel was a covenant child, Jacob was also a covenant child. Are you a covenant child of God? You need to come into agreement with God. If you are not in agreement with God, your life is hopeless, your remembrance in the heart of God will be for evil. If you want God to remember you for good and make you a candidate of His mercy, surrender your life to Jesus Christ. Except you are born-again, you cannot receive the blessings of God's Kingdom. If you are willing to repent and surrender your life to Jesus Christ, then pray this prayer right now: LORD Jesus, I come to You right now. I know I am a sinner, please forgive me my sins. With my mouth, I confess that Jesus, from today I accept You as the LORD of my life. I plead the Blood of Jesus to wash away my sins; fill me with Your Holy Spirit, write my name in the Book of Life, and make me brand new in Jesus Mighty Name.
