MY CONFESSION IN TRANSITION
Excerpts of Pastor J.E. Bamidele Sturdivant Message at the Sunrise Service of Sunday, December 11, 2016
Bible Text: Psalm 23:1-4 [NKJV]
The opposite of faith is fear, but the enemy of faith is time. Everyone can believe God as long as what they believe Him for happens within a certain time frame. If you are making your confidence based on a calendar, clock, minutes, seconds or years, then you have minimised the ability of God, and have almost eliminated what He has promised you. Your problem is not a difficult one for God to solve.
Hebrews 6:15 says "And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise." Abraham was patient in waiting and did not waver from what God had told him (even though time and his body were against him). Sometimes, the thing you have to fight is the opinion of people. You also have to fight your own voice telling you negative things. You have to move beyond what you see or what you feel, and say that in spite of it all, you still believe God. Time factor causes you to doubt that God can keep His Word, because many people are now living in times where everything happens fast, and no one has developed the virtue of patience. No one knows how to wait on the LORD, be of good courage, and watch Him strengthen their heart. No one has developed or matured their faith, and so they have a faith that is only based on what happens frequently or quickly. But the Bible says in Jude 1:20 [AMP] "But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of your most holy faith continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher, pray in the Holy Spirit." This implies that your faith ought to promote you to believe greater. You have to have a greater level of faith because what you thought you should have had in January, though you did not get it, you are still alive in December; for God kept you. What you thought you ought to have, you only based it on time and not the One who controls times and seasons (Daniel 2:20-21), who can change your situation and make it work together for your good.
Hebrews 10:36-38 says "For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”" You need to understand that while you are waiting on God, sooner than later, and quicker than at once, He will show up. You might wonder why nothing is happening for you yet in this month of December; you might feel your problem was too big for God, hence, you have reduced your desires, belittled your dreams and vision. Don't make your vision smaller, make you faith bigger.
Do you know the type of God that you serve? He is not weary; He is not intimidated by the size of your problem. God wants you to bring every situation you are going through before Him and watch Him handle it for you. There are those who have given up because they feel it is taking God too long to fulfil His promise (2 Timothy 4:10), but you have to be persuaded that God is able to keep that which you have committed unto Him against the appointed day of manifestation. God is able to do what He says He will do.
Psalm 23:4 says "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me." This means that you will have to go through some valley situations. It doesn't matter what location or scenery you may be in, as long as God is the same, yesterday, today or forever, then you don't have to worry about whether you are on the mountain or in the valley. It doesn't matter whether time has passed or not, the good news is you have not passed, and since you have not passed, there is still time for God to do what He says.
